Doughnut Debate: UCD students apply economic model to modern problems

Wednesday, 15 October, 2025

Should global music tours like Taylor Swift and Coldplay be required to offset their carbon footprint even if ticket prices rise? Should KSI and Logan Paul be responsible for the health and social impact of promoting energy drink Prime to young fans? Should every government guarantee basics like food, water, health and housing for all - no matter the cost?

Using prompts like these from contemporary culture that pertain to climate change, health and social foundation, the Doughnut Debate* took place this afternoon in University College Dublin.

Attended by some 50 students, debaters may have had their disagreements but all were gracious in the face of opposing ideas!

This event was led by our fantastic UCD Sustainability Student Ambassadors Faith Azeez and Giulia Schiliro', with guidance and support from their colleague Ash Middleton, in partnership with global professional services firm EY, the Irish Doughnut Economics Network (IDEN) and several UCD student societies.
